Ellie Goulding has spoken about being helpless and "like a sexual object" at the beginning of her career.
Addressing The Guardian, the artist said she encountered inappropriate behavior from various music makers. "The first producer I met wanted to sleep with me," she said about a music session when she was 19 years of age. "Also, I resembled, why? I didn’t see myself as an object of desire."
The star disclosed that music meetings would frequently incorporate liquor and interesting remarks would be made. "I wouldn’t be able to get home because I couldn’t afford it, and they would say: 'You can stay.' The singer said there would always be the suggestion that she had to laugh it off.
"My whole career started off with instantly being made to feel like a sexual object, and being made to feel vulnerable in those sessions. And there are so many female singers that will hear me saying that and say: 'Yeah, I can relate" the singer continued. These encounters as she explained made her depressed being sexualized "was what one of my strengths had to be. I really was programmed into thinking that that was part of how to succeed."
